The Royal Basque Society of the Friends of the Country - Euskalerriaren Adiskideen Elkartea, an innovative project promoted by a group of Enlightenment scholars, led by Xabier María de Munibe, Count of Peñaflorida, is now celebrating 250 years since its founding on 24th December 1764. Nowadays, it is seen as a brand, the collective heritage of all Basque people symbolizing commitment and love of the Country. It is fully fledged symbol for a society such as ours, the progress of which is underpinned by the values of innovation and humanism.
Just as in the Society's early days, the Royal Basque Society of the Friends of the Country continues to keep the spirit of research alive. It publishes work carried out by its members in the various Commissions and Delegations. The following annual publications are significant:
- Boletín de la Real Sociedad Bascongada de los Amigos del País (The Bulletin of the Society). It first appeared in 1945 as an outlet for disseminating the activities undertaken by the Society and as a means for publicizing Basque culture.
- EGAN. Euskalerriaren Adiskideen Elkartearen Boletinaren euskarazko gehigarria. It has been published since 1948 as a supplement to the Royal Basque Society's Bulletin.
- Nuevos Extractos. A publication containing the incoming member lectures delivered by the latest Full Members.
